Self-Management Strategies for Stressful Situations
Personal stressors for me would vary from time to time. Currently, school and driving license would be my personal stressors. The underlying root causes of why I am stressed of school would be the heavy workload given every week, as well grades. I would be stressed out on whether I’d be able to complete the heavy workload on time and whether I’d manage to get good grades for school. Whereas for driving license, the thought of not doing well at practice always makes me anxious.
Three personal strategies that I am going to carry out to predict stressful situations would be noticing the feelings I would usually have before facing stress in time. Thus, I’d have to take note of these ‘pre-feelings’ of stress. The ‘pre-feelings’ of stress for me usually would be I’d be overthinking of that particular issue all the time, feeling of hopelessness and just being even more quiet than usual, which would affect other daily activities. Moving on, I noticed that I would sleep lesser when facing stressful situations despite being so tired that day, which is not good since I’d feel lethargic next day due to not having enough sleep. To deal with this situation of lack of sleep, I'd have to try to do more activities so that I'd be extremely tired and would eventually fall asleep. The worst level of stressful situation that I am in would be that I’d just do nothing at all to counter that issue and just distract myself with my phone which is not good as well since it would also affect my daily schedule. The strategy to counter this issue that I may be able to do is, to let out my feelings and thoughts by writing digitally on my phone of whatever of that situation is of.
Three personal actions and self-management strategies to prevent or manage stress would be, firstly to talk it out about the situation or issue I am facing to either my family or my close friends. It may be hard for me to do this at first since I am used to keeping issues I face to myself, but I will try implement this method. Next would be taking a short stroll or walk around my neighborhood. The people around me that does this method says that it do help in alleviating stress. Thus, I would also try to execute this method. Lastly, I would try to opt for meditation- sitting quietly with my eyes closed, within a certain time limit that has been set, then think about what can I do to solve issues that I am facing or what I am thankful of or even the things I learnt from past events and so on, without looking at any gadgets. I think that these 3 methods would definitely help in preventing or managing stress.
